Journey to Sugar Creek, Kansas
A Lenten Pilgrimage to Philippine’s Home with the Potawatomi
Thursday, March 26-Friday, March 27, 2020 (2 full days).
In 1841, Philippine Duchesne traveled to Sugar Creek, Kansas and spent a year with the Potawatomi Indians, realizing a lifelong dream of working with Native Americans. She was respected and well-loved, and they called her “the woman who prays always.”
Join Sister Margaret Munch as she leads a pilgrimage to Sugar Creek to visit St. Mary’s and Mound City, where Philippine lived with the Potawatomi. Highlights of the trip include the Indian pay station, Sacred Heart Church and St. Mary’s Mission/St. Philippine Duchesne Memorial Park.
More than 30 alums as well as parents of alums and friends participated in our Alumni Day of Service in honor of Philippine’s Feast on Saturday, Nov. 16.
For the past several years, alums have commemorated Philippine’s Feast (Nov. 18) with a Day of Service. Not only is this a community builder among alums, it is a direct expression of Goal 3 of Sacred Heart education: a social awareness which impels to action. Alums serve at area organizations as well as complete projects on the Academy’s campus.
We are excited to connect with Academy alums in the Kansas City area on Friday, Nov. 8 from 5 – 7 p.m. for a French-themed Happy Hour at Le Fou Frog (400 E. 5th Street, KCMO).
Did you know that there are many Academy alums, including several Mizzou students, living in Columbia or nearby? We’d love to connect with you! Please join us Wednesday, Sept. 18 from 4-6 p.m. for a Pizza Party in Peace Park*!
Attention Classes 2012-2019! Whether you’re heading to high school or off to college, we’d love to see you back at ASH to reconnect with your Academy friends! Join us for our 2nd Annual Young Alum Back to School BBQ on Thursday, Aug. 1 at 5:30 p.m.
