Why the Academy?

The Academy of the Sacred Heart is an independent Catholic school open to 3-year-old through 8th grade children of all faiths. Our program offers students the opportunity to learn and grow in a safe and happy environment, with a focus on building strong academic skills while fostering independent learning and communication. Curriculum highlights include: two Science labs, a Makerspace, 1:1 computing, French and Spanish, daily Physical Education, and recognized art, music and athletic programs.

Founded in 1818 by St. Philippine Duchesne, the Academy was the first of many Sacred Heart schools established in the United States. Our mission is to educate and inspire the heart and mind of each child to become a courageous and confident leader who knows and loves God, and who reveals that love by serving others. Our graduates are young men and women well prepared for the challenges of high school, college, and beyond.

Scenes from Chemin de Fer 2024

Saturday’s Chemin de Fer: the Golden Age was a grand celebration of 50 years! Nearly 400 guests came together for a spectacular evening of Sacred Heart community to benefit the Academy in our own Grand Central Station.

Board member Mary Charlotte Chandler, RSCJ began the evening with prayer. Mr. Horner then recognized the evening’s Honorary Chair, Marcia Baronovic Renken ’72, 8th, and introduced a tribute video. Marcia was joined by her family, former classmates and friends for this very special moment.

The Academy Receives STEM Grant

April 12, 2024

For the past four years, the Economic Development Council of St. Charles County (EDC) has collaborated with local entrepreneur, STEM champion, and parent of Academy alums Randy Schilling, along with other sponsors, to award teachers in St. Charles County grants of up to $1,000 to fund STEM-related classroom materials.

This year, we are pleased to announce that the Academy is a recipient of a $1,000 grant!

Class of 2024 High School Acceptances

Join us in saying très bien to our Class of 2024 as we celebrate their high school acceptances. They are headed to Cor Jesu, Incarnate Word, MICDS, St. Dominic, St. Joseph’s, Visitation, CBC, Chaminade, De Smet, SLUH, and Duchesne.

Academy Names Next Principal

January 10, 2024

On Thursday Mr. Horner announced that Mary Dougherty Reepmeyer ’96 will become the Academy’s next Principal beginning July 1, 2024. She will follow Marcia Baronovic Renken ‘72, upon her retirement.

“Mrs. Reepmeyer’s candidacy was impressive in all she wrote and shared, in how she led and listened; she reinforced what we as a community have firsthand experienced,” Mr. Horner shared. “During the interview process, she wrote: ‘Our conversation further fueled my enthusiasm for the innovative programs and commitment to academic excellence which the Academy personifies.’”

This week Mr. Horner shares deep gratitude to the Academy community for a successful Chemin de Fer last Saturday. It was humbling to experience the support of Academy families — present and past — alums from across the years, faculty and staff, RSCJ, Board members, grandparents and friends of the Academy.

The 50th Chemin de Fer transported us to a magical night, from a train station unrecognizable as a gym, to an enjoyable meal with friends, to Chemin Central crowded with almost 400 guests, to honoring Mrs. Renken as Honorary Chair. The excitement began as the doors opened and continued throughout the night.

We will continue down the tracks of appreciation. Thank you to all who donated to the Fund-the-Need, or in this case fund enhancements to the academic program. The generosity of the community raised more than $400,000.
