Best of St. Charles

December 14, 2016

Congratulations to Mrs. Marcia Renken, who was named Best Principal in the 2016 Best of St. Charles Readers’ Poll. Category winners were announced and celebrated last night at a gala event at the Foundry Arts Centre. Winners are featured in today’s St. Charles Suburban Journal and will be shown in Friday’s St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

Très bien, Mrs. Renken! Thank you for sharing your gifts with the ASH community each and every day.

Winning Essays

December 9, 2016

It was a heartwarming moment for our RSCJ when two ASH graduates were recognized in the 2016 “Stories of Our St. Louis Sisters” essay contest. Matilda “Tilly” Glascock, a sophomore at Cor Jesu (shown at right in photo), won for her essay about Sister Maureen Glavin. Jessica Skinker, a senior at Incarnate Word Academy, won for her essay about Sister Margaret Munch. Sister Glavin attended the awards ceremony at Incarnate Word, at which five of the winning essays were read aloud. Essays were judged by women religious.

In its fourth year, “Stories of Our St. Louis Sisters” is sponsored by the Incarnate Word Foundation and supported by the Catholic Education Office. It seeks to celebrate the contributions of women religious in the Archdiocese.

Congratulations to Tilly and Jessica! CLICK HERE to read their winning essays.

The Lily of Our Hearts

December 8, 2016

Dear Parents,

Today is the Feast of the Immaculate Conception, the day when children of the Sacred Heart, throughout the world and for generations, honor Mary by carrying lilies and candles in a procession which culminates in a prayer of dedication:

O Mary, I give you the lily of my heart. Be its guardian forever.

Day of Service

December 7, 2016

On Saturday, Nov. 19, alums took part in our annual Day of Service in celebration of Philippine’s Feast. After a morning mass in the Shrine, which concluded the 24-Hour Eucharistic Adoration, alums headed to Our Lady’s Inn (providing homeless pregnant women and their children shelter) and Karen House (a Catholic Worker house of hospitality for homeless women and children) to paint, deep clean, provide lunch and move furniture. Each site was very grateful for our help and one wrote, “Yesterday was a huge success because of you all. Thank you all so much again. Our house is our home and Sacred Hearts are always welcome.” We are happy to honor Philippine by serving others!

PRE-PRIMARY FAMILIES will celebrate their Silver Tea in Cribbin Hall on Monday, December 12 at 10 a.m. Grandparents are most welcome.

PLEASE HELP US make the Silver Teas joyful celebrations for our children and their guests.

  1. Upon arrival, adults should take their seats in Rauch Memorial and all children should proceed, unescorted, to their assigned classrooms.
  2. If it is necessary to bring very young children to the performances, please consider the enjoyment of those around you.
  3. While parents enjoy refreshments in the White Center following the performance, P–7 students will enjoy cookies in classrooms, where they will remain until called for by their parents. Recognizing their position in the school, we invite Eighth Class students to attend the tea with their parents.

An Advent Message

December 1, 2016

Though the word Advent describes the four-week liturgical season prior to Christmas upon which we have just embarked, it also, in its simplicity, means “coming.” During Advent we remember the coming of Christ in history; we rejoice in the coming of Christ into the daily events of our lives (God, we are told, IS with us); and we anticipate the fullness of the coming of Christ in the future!

NEW! 2016 Ornament

November 30, 2016

2016-philippine-ornamentAfter a few years’ hiatus, the Cribbin Hall window ornaments have returned. The 2016 ornament depicts the eighth in a series of nine stained glass windows in Cribbin Hall library. Designed in the 1940s by liturgical artist Emil Frei, the windows tell the story of St. Philippine Duchesne’s life. The 2016 ornament/eighth window depicts foreign missions and the evangelization which began with Philippine’s departure from France. All of the Academy ornaments can be ordered online HERE or purchased in the Advancement Office for $20.

Santa’s Helpers

November 30, 2016

Fourth Class students recently demonstrated a selfless, giving Christmas spirit by volunteering at Santa’s Helper’s. As a class they wrapped presents, stuffed stockings, decorated boxes and made candy bags—just to name a few. Ms. Rita and her helpers genuinely appreciated the assistance from our Fourth Class friends! This is an annual service project undertaken by the Fourth Class.

A Special Birthday for Sister Munch

November 17, 2016

mm1Happy Birthday to Sister Margaret Munch, Academy sacristan, Philippine Duchesne historian, tour guide and play director! She’s also the lunch monitor for the Fourth Class, who surprised her today with cake and flowers. Yesterday after school, ASH faculty and staff did the same. We love you, Sister Munch! May the year ahead be bright!

Celebrating the Feast of St. Rose Philippine Duchesne

November 17, 2016

Dear Academy Community,

We anticipate tomorrow’s Feast of St. Rose Philippine Duchesne celebration with great JOY! Among the many events:

  • After a Eucharistic Procession from Duchesne High School to Mother Duchesne’s Shrine (where they will venerate their school’s namesake), the Duchesne High School community will join us for a special Feast Day Liturgy in Rauch Memorial Gym. Anyone who wishes is welcome to this special celebration.
  • The Academy community is serving those in need with Feast Day gifts of food for New Hope Food Pantry.
  • The Academy Alumni Association will be participating in Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament from Friday morning until Saturday morning, book-ended by 8 a.m. masses in the Shrine. Anyone is welcome to join.
  • The Alumni Association will engage in a day of service on Saturday.

Thank you to each one for celebrating Philippine by following her lead: Deepening our connection with the Heart of Christ AND BEING the Heart of Christ in the world through the lives that we lead and ways that we love!

I am thankful to be in this beautiful community as we continue to journey ever deeper into Christ’s Heart and God’s Grace.

Happy Feast everyone,

Maureen Glavin, rscj
