Congratulations to Mrs. Marcia Renken, who was named Best Principal in the 2016 Best of St. Charles Readers’ Poll. Category winners were announced and celebrated last night at a gala event at the Foundry Arts Centre. Winners are featured in today’s St. Charles Suburban Journal and will be shown in Friday’s St. Louis Post-Dispatch.
Winning Essays
It was a heartwarming moment for our RSCJ when two ASH graduates were recognized in the 2016 “Stories of Our St. Louis Sisters” essay contest. Matilda “Tilly” Glascock, a sophomore at Cor Jesu (shown at right in photo), won for her essay about Sister Maureen Glavin. Jessica Skinker, a senior at Incarnate Word Academy, won for her essay about Sister Margaret Munch. Sister Glavin attended the awards ceremony at Incarnate Word, at which five of the winning essays were read aloud. Essays were judged by women religious.
In its fourth year, “Stories of Our St. Louis Sisters” is sponsored by the Incarnate Word Foundation and supported by the Catholic Education Office. It seeks to celebrate the contributions of women religious in the Archdiocese.
Congratulations to Tilly and Jessica! CLICK HERE to read their winning essays.
Day of Service
On Saturday, Nov. 19, alums took part in our annual Day of Service in celebration of Philippine’s Feast. After a morning mass in the Shrine, which concluded the 24-Hour Eucharistic Adoration, alums headed to Our Lady’s Inn (providing homeless pregnant women and their children shelter) and Karen House (a Catholic Worker house of hospitality for homeless women and children) to paint, deep clean, provide lunch and move furniture. Each site was very grateful for our help and one wrote, “Yesterday was a huge success because of you all. Thank you all so much again. Our house is our home and Sacred Hearts are always welcome.” We are happy to honor Philippine by serving others!
Talk and Tour
If you or someone you know is interested in learning more about Sacred Heart education at the Academy, join us for Talk and Tour Tuesdays in January. We’d be happy to welcome you to this mini-version of our Open House program. RSVP to Admissions Director Lisa Tebbe, or call 636-946-6127, ext. 1620.

- While parents enjoy refreshments in the White Center following the performance, P–7 students will enjoy cookies in classrooms, where they will remain until called for by their parents. Recognizing their position in the school, we invite Eighth Class students to attend the tea with their parents.
NEW! 2016 Ornament
After a few years’ hiatus, the Cribbin Hall window ornaments have returned. The 2016 ornament depicts the eighth in a series of nine stained glass windows in Cribbin Hall library. Designed in the 1940s by liturgical artist Emil Frei, the windows tell the story of St. Philippine Duchesne’s life. The 2016 ornament/eighth window depicts foreign missions and the evangelization which began with Philippine’s departure from France. All of the Academy ornaments can be ordered online HERE or purchased in the Advancement Office for $20.
Santa’s Helpers
Fourth Class students recently demonstrated a selfless, giving Christmas spirit by volunteering at Santa’s Helper’s. As a class they wrapped presents, stuffed stockings, decorated boxes and made candy bags—just to name a few. Ms. Rita and her helpers genuinely appreciated the assistance from our Fourth Class friends! This is an annual service project undertaken by the Fourth Class.

A Special Birthday for Sister Munch
Happy Birthday to Sister Margaret Munch, Academy sacristan, Philippine Duchesne historian, tour guide and play director! She’s also the lunch monitor for the Fourth Class, who surprised her today with cake and flowers. Yesterday after school, ASH faculty and staff did the same. We love you, Sister Munch! May the year ahead be bright!
