Yesterday we said farewell to the Chinese students who arrived nearly three weeks ago, a bit unsure of what to expect but with great enthusiasm.
Bicentennial Lesson Plan #4
Bicentennial Lesson Plan No. 4 – New Orleans Hospitality, spanning the period May 25 to June 26, 1818, is now available. Lesson 4 details the generous hospitality and support of the Ursuline community, and Philippine’s determination to follow her dream despite the uncertainties of being an immigrant.

Celebrating Catholic Schools Week
Happy Catholic Schools Week! What an exciting time as we are also celebrating nearly 200 years of both education in St. Charles and Catholic education in the Archdiocese of St. Louis, both of which began with our school.
Bicentennial Medal
The Shrine of St. Philippine Duchesne has commissioned a Bicentennial medal, available in three finishes (non-precious, sterling silver, and vermeil). The front reads “Rose Philippine Duchesne, 1769-1852”; the back, “Established Sacred Heart Education in America, 1818.” Order online here or visit the Shrine office to view in person.
Philippine in Her Own Words
The second presentation in the 2017-2018 Philippine Duchesne Bicentennial Sacred Heart Spirituality Series at Villa Duchesne and Oak Hill School will take place on Friday, Feb. 2. Sister Lyn Osiek, a 1958 graduate of the Academy, Society of the Sacred Heart archivist, and author of St. Rose Philippine Duchesne, will present “Philippine in Her Own Words.” All are most welcome to attend; guests welcome. Bicentennial Lesson Plans
Bicentennial Lesson Plan No. 3 – Ocean Travel to the New World, spanning the period February 15 to May 16, 1818, is now available. Lesson 3 focuses on Philippine’s first-hand account of her transatlantic journey from Bordeaux, France, to New Orleans in 70 days and sailing ships in the early 1800’s.
