“Dream Big” Winner

Congrats to Emma Larkin ’19 winner of our first “Dream Big” essay contest, sponsored by Julie Meyer Swaney ’81, owner of Limelight Events. Eighth Class students were invited to write about their dream job and how their Academy education has prepared them for it.

“Emma’s extremely creative essay about her desire for interplanetary space travel took us on a journey of her past and how it led to her future of being the first to step foot onto Mars,” says Julie. “It was extremely well-written and Emma took it to heart when asked to ‘Dream Big’!”

Excerpt from “Welcome Home,” by Emma Larkin:

“I thought about my grade school. Academy of the Sacred Heart. The place where my love of the cosmos started and was fueled for a life stuck in the stars. My obsession started in the third grade when we first learned about our solar system but grew in sixth. My teachers smiled whenever I rambled about different space facts and shared with me what they knew. A couple of my teachers would even give me their old books about astronomy. I treated those books like the bible and read them every night. I definitely think I would not be here today without the Academy, and I am forever in debt to it for that.”

Emma wins a free 3-hour event space rental at Limelight Events. Congratulations, Emma and KEEP ON DREAMING BIG! To read her full essay, click here.
