Camp Lakewood Experience

ASH eighth graders have been going to Camp Lakewood for 18 years! It is one of those opportunities that offers a memorable experience for every student. To some, it’ s conquering the high ropes course or mastering the Alpine rescue’s challenges. To others, it’s climbing the infamous tower or hitting a bull’s eye with a flying arrow or a spear! Through the  “Lakewood  experience,” some eighth graders  have discovered  a classmate’s strengths or found the opportunity to display their hidden talents.  Most students value the chance to spend  time  with their friends … sharing meals, cabin antics and campfire stories.

This year the Seventh Class had a “taste of Lakewood” with a one-night and two-day excursion, but the premier trip, with a few extra perks, was for the Eighth Class, who stayed for two nights and three days. Both classes were exceptional in their personal and group  accomplishments! The Lakewood staff and Academy teachers raved about the students in all aspects of the trip. Their parents can certainly be proud!

Here are a few comments from Eighth Class students about their camp experience.

Camp Lakewood was a great bonding time as a class. I learned more about my class and our strengths and limits. We built good teamwork and leadership skills. I really enjoyed my time there.   — Josh

I had an amazing time at camp. It was so much fun and I loved getting to have an experience like it. All of the girls became so close through the campfire and through all of our team building activities. Through the summit course and Alpine tower, I was pushed to challenge my fears, and all of my friends and  teachers supported me through it. Lakewood has most definitely been  my best 8th grade experience yet!   — Zoe

Camp Lakewood was a great bonding experience for everyone. Lakewood tested our natural abilities. I also saw everyone differently and accepted everyone.   — TJ

On the second night of our Lakewood visit, the eighth grade girls were overwhelmed with many emotions. We had a bonfire that night, and we had such a wonderful experience. I learned so much about my classmates and how they had felt over the years at ASH… It was amazing to see how open everyone was that night.  — Paige

My time at Lakewood was super fun. The trip made me more comfortable to be myself in front of my classmates. I learned how close our class really is and how much we really care for each other. Camp Lakewood was a good experience, I got to learn things about my classmates I never knew and see sides of them I never saw. Camp Lakewood allowed me to build stronger relationships with my friends.   — Katie
