Dear Parents,
Welcome back from Spring Break and Happy Easter to one and all! We joyfully celebrate Easter and the 50 days that follow it as the center of our belief in the Good News that Christ is Risen! The implications of this bring us to know some deep truths about life and death. At its essence, we can say that we know that life, when generously given away, never runs out! That is a powerful statement which is difficult to grasp. Yet, this is what we believe. We believe this not only about the person of Jesus, who, as The Christ, is the fullness of God in a human form, but we believe this about our own lives. Therein lies our hope, our joy and our peace. May the depth of this knowledge fill us and flow out of us as the hope, the joy and the peace which is our privilege to give the world.
Moving into our long and glorious Easter Season, we are also moving into our fourth and final quarter of the academic year. In this week’s Thursday Mail we conclude the third quarter with a congratulations to all who are listed on the Honor Roll below and we congratulate all who have worked hard and grown (whether they are on the Honor Roll or not). Transitioning now into our last quarter of love and learning, we also offer our congratulations to our Fifth Class D.A.R.E. graduates and we look forward to the Third through Seventh Class standardized testing which is scheduled for next week.
Always attentive to the social, emotional, relational and behavioral growth of our students, I encourage you to read the information below about the social media education being provided not only for you but for our oldest students as well.
May the learning and growth continue for all of us, on all levels of our being.
United in joy, hope and peace,
Maureen Glavin, rscj

ASH Places Second in Excellence in Mathematics Contest
Congratulations to our Eighth Class students for winning second place in the 2013 Excellence in Mathematics Contest. More than two dozen schools from the St. Louis area took part in the March 16 contest at St. Louis Community College at Florissant Valley. This was the first time that the Academy competed in this 35-year-old math contest, in which students in grades 6–8 compete in grade-level teams. The combined total of our top four finishers’ scores determined the Academy’s second place win in Division 1.
Math teacher and coach Mrs. Lisa Delicath said, “I was particularly proud of our kids because they did most of the practice on their own.”
Accolades to Niles B., Morgan B., Mariana G., Kerrie K., Danny M., Quinn S., Veronica S., Ethan W., Adam W. and Clara W. for a job well done!
Congratulations
Congratulations to our Eighth Class students, all of whom were accepted recently by their first-choice high schools. In the fall, the 67 members of the Academy Class of 2013 will be attending 15 area high schools. We are very proud of each and every one of them!
Supporting Project Peanut Butter
Students and staff alike will join forces to support Project Peanut Butter on Friday, March 22—the last day of school before Spring Break. Project Peanut Butter aims to prevent malnutrition all around the world with a revolutionary therapeutic program founded by Dr. Mark Manary, who developed a special peanut butter food for severely malnourished children.
To raise funds for the Project Peanut Butter initiative, Academy students will be able to wear pajama pants and T-shirts on Friday for a donation of $2. In addition, a Bake Sale of peanut butter goodies will be held during all lunch periods that day; each item will cost 50¢. (There will be non-peanut butter items for children with allergies.)
- Learn more about Project Peanut Butter on the Project Peanut Butter website.

New Shrine Website
The Shrine of St. Rose Philippine Duchesne, located on the Academy campus, has a new website: www.duchesneshrine.org.
The Shrine is a lasting tribute to the Academy’s foundress, the French missionary Religious of the Sacred Heart who brought formalized education and a zeal for sharing the love of God to the Missouri frontier in 1818. Previously, information about the Shrine could be found on a page of the Academy’s website. Now, the new Shrine website is host to more easily navigable information about Philippine, the richness of her life, a history and description of the Shrine, and how one can plan a visit, support the Shrine through donations and purchase items from the gift shop.
Please visit and take a “stroll” through the virtual Shrine of St. Rose Philippine Duchesne at duchesneshrine.org.
School Supplies
Parents, a list of school supplies required for the 2013-2014 school year has been posted to the Parent Portal. Orders can be placed beginning April 1.
Sacred Heart Exchange
One of the benefits of belonging to a network of schools that shares a common philosophy of education is the opportunity for student exchanges. This week, we’ve enjoyed getting to know Patrick D., an eighth grade student from Stuart Hall, one of four schools that comprise Schools of the Sacred Heart-San Francisco. Sam O., whose family hosted Patrick in St. Charles, will in turn travel to San Francisco to experience Sacred Heart education on the West Coast, and will stay with Patrick’s family.
