The Feast of St. Philippine

November 12, 2015

PhilippineKneeling
Next Wednesday we will celebrate one of the Academy’s most precious days—the Feast of St. Rose Philippine Duchesne.

In anticipation of this special day, I’d like to mention two aspects of Philippine’s life, both of which we try to emulate in our education and both of which are reflected in our Goals.

Philippine’s Prayer Life
We know Philippine as “The Woman Who Prays Always.” There are many stories of children placing leaves or sticks on her habit to see if Philippine moved during prayer, only to discover that she was often ‘lost in God’  for hours on end. To that end, she chose to sleep in a closet near the chapel so she could get up in the middle of the night to pray.

Stagestruck Presents “The Family Bytes”

October 29, 2015

Saturday, Oct. 31 and Sunday Nov. 1
2:00 p.m.
Cribbin Hall

Two inept detectives, Cagney and Lacey, have been put in charge of protecting an unusual family until the mother, Elvira Bytes, can testify against a ruthless crime mob. The police are unaware, however, that Elvira, her husband Barnabas, and their three kids are vampires! The parents are trying to change the family ways but it isn’t easy with  a sarcastic teenage daughter, Scarlett, who uses a voodoo doll, and teenage son, Jason, who thinks he is also a werewolf. Only the youngest daughter, Raven, wants to be normal. When she brings home a new friend, Cagney and Lacey go on high alert, which isn’t easy for the two detectives who are not the brightest bulbs on the force. Is this new friend an associate of mob bosses Lucky Lucy and the germ-a-phobic Minnie the Mouth? Will two arrogant hotshot cops, Starsky and Hutch, have to step in to help? Sink your teeth into this comedy!

Charism and Internationality

October 29, 2015

Dear Parents,

A Sacred Heart education is differentiated by, among other things, the following:

  1. The Charism of the Society of the Sacred Heart  – which invites us to be open to the experience of, and united to, Christ in a very personal way. Madeleine Sophie Barat (foundress of the Society) called this ‘an interior life.’  Prayer and contemplation are the path to this interior experience which is ultimately an experience of God’s Love. Pope Francis uses the word Encounter to describe the same thing.
  2. The Internationality of the Society  – which invites us to be open to the world with a loving heart. This connection with the international Society both forms and informs how and to what we educate.

Fun-n-Facts for Brain-iacs

October 27, 2015

Did you know that Johnny Appleseed was a missionary—and a war hero? Sixth Class students do! They recently learned a lot about that larger-than-life character using Fun-n-Facts for Brain-iacs, a syndicated feature penned by their Literature and Writing teacher, Mrs. Laura Craig. Fun-n-Facts appears each week in the Webster-Kirkwood Times.

24 Hours of Eucharistic Adoration

October 27, 2015

In anticipation of the Nov. 18 Feast Day of St. Philippine Duchesne, the Alumni Association will be sponsoring 24 HOURS OF EUCHARISTIC ADORATION in the Shrine of St. Philippine Duchesne. All are invited for prayer in the Shrine any time during the next 24 hours, and to the closing mass on Saturday, Nov. 14 at 8 a.m.

While the public is invited to come for prayer at any time during this 24-hour period, we are asking alums to sign up for an hour (to be responsible for having the exposed Blessed Sacrament attended around the clock).  CLICK HERE to volunteer for this important service.

Please address any questions to Alumni Association President Russ Clever.
