Last week we began our Lenten journey with ashes on our foreheads as a way to remind us to repent, change, or grow. Though change and growth are lifelong processes, during Lent we surely put forth some highly-conscious effort in these regards.
Cricket
Several of our students play cricket regularly. Susan Harris from the American Cricket Academy and Club came to school this week to demonstrate cricket with Parth Patel for the students in Classes 3-8. She brought equipment with her and guided some of our students in play. She was also kind enough to leave a set of equipment with us so that we can play with our students, which we plan to do in the spring. The game is somewhat similar to baseball and played on a field two soccer fields long. Our students really enjoyed it! We are grateful to Ms. Harris and Mrs. Patel for arranging this demonstration.

“Four Important Conversations to have with our Young Adolescents…
…and How to Back Up our Words with Actions” This will be the topic of a 7 p.m. presentation on Thursday, Feb. 18 by Amy Maus, MSW, LCSW, of West County Psychological Associates. All Academy parents—and anyone else who may be interested—are invited to attend. The presentation will be especially helpful for 4th-8th Class parents.
A Grand Gala
People are still commenting on the joy that was palpable at Jane Cannon’s retirement party Jan. 16. Three hundred of her nearest and dearest turned out to fete her for 41 years of beautiful service, and to wish her much-deserved happiness in the years ahead. A liturgy in the Shrine was followed by a cocktail reception in the Conference Room, parlor, hallway and Cribbin Hall library. Jane’s friends shared celebratory remarks, and a very special visitor (aka St. Philippine) made an appearance. Our thanks to the many volunteers who hosted this party, and to Bill Slaughter for taking many of these photographs.

Mission to Educate
We are proud of our nearly 200-year heritage as a Catholic school in the Archdiocese of St. Louis! Several years ago, HEC-TV created a documentary entitled Mission to Educate: A Faithful Past, a Faith-Filled Future. It is a rich historical review of how St. Louis earned the title ‘Rome of the West’ and how St. Louis Catholic schools constantly evolved to continue the tradition of excellence.
St. Philippine Duchesne and the Academy are featured throughout the film. Click here to view Mission to Educate.

Catholic Schools Week
We join Catholic schools in the St. Louis area in the celebration of Catholic Schools Week Jan. 31 – Feb. 5.
We look forward to having Bishop Edward Rice preside at our First Friday liturgy Feb. 5 at 1:30 p.m. All are welcome to join us in Rauch Memorial.
One element of our Catholic curriculum is the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd program, in which our youngest students nurture their understanding and relationship with Jesus. Our Pre-Primary through First Class students regularly visit the Atrium, a learning space created for Catechists and students to do their “work.”
