ASH Bicentennial Website

June 8, 2017

In September 2018 we’ll reach an important milestone—200 years of Sacred Heart education at the Academy of the Sacred Heart! But we aren’t waiting until the fall of 2018 to recognize this noteworthy anniversary. Both the Academy and the Society of the Sacred Heart have planned more than a year’s worth of events to celebrate 200 years since St. Philippine Duchesne carried the mission of Sacred Heart education to America.

To share events that have already occurred and to keep everyone up-to-speed regarding celebratory plans on the horizon, today we launched an Academy Bicentennial website. Whatever you may be wondering about Sacred Heart’s Bicentennial, look for it here.

Alumni Congé Reunion

May 30, 2017

ASH alumni, return to your alma mater and reconnect with ASH friends! Plan now to attend the upcoming Congé Reunion on Saturday, June 10. Mass at 5 p.m. in the Shrine will be followed by a reception in the historic area and front yard. This year’s reunion classes are those ending in “7” or “2,” and special Honor Classes are 30, 40, 50 and 60 year classes. ALL alums are welcome to this annual party!

Check out the Congé pre-event on the Congé invitation. Mrs. Cannon will present a preview of her soon-to-be published book, “Two Hundred Years: A Legacy of Love and Learning,” in Cribbin Hall.

Service Bound

May 26, 2017

Four of our Seventh Class students will be participating next month in a summer service project offered by the Network of Sacred Heart Schools. Astrid, Sia, Sahiti and Abby will be going to Sacred Heart Schools in Atherton, Cal., to learn “How Organic School Farms and Gardens Can Help Feed the Planet.” We applaud them for living Goal III—“Schools of the Sacred Heart commit themselves to educate to a social awareness which impels to action”—and look forward to learning about their experience next fall.

Pre-Primary Closing

May 26, 2017

Our Pre-Primary students paid tribute to the Blessed Mother with songs and flowers in the Rose Garden before gathering in the Shrine for their Closing ceremony. The class gifted Mrs. Renken and Sister Glavin with candles, and each student was recognized for special gifts and characteristics. Sister Glavin expressed appreciation for the Pre-Primary students’ growth in learning and for what they have brought to the community this year. Happy summer, boys and girls!

Loving congratulations and all the best to our newest graduates, the Academy Class of 2017. A week of celebratory events ended with Graduation and Alumni Induction this morning at St. Charles Borromeo. As pointed out in Life at the Sacred Heart, “Wherever you go, whatever road you may travel, you will always find a home at the Sacred Heart.” Godspeed, Class of 2017!

Un Beau Chemin de Fer

May 10, 2017

Whether you were a first-time guest or a loyal auction attendee, our 2017 Chemin de Fer was a special event! Approximately 425 guests enjoyed all that Chemin has to offer: exciting auction prizes, lively bidding, delicious dinner and drinks, and catching up with ASH friends. Most memorable of all was the presence of nearly two dozen Religious of the Sacred Heart, who served as Honorary Chairs and whose attendance brought so many longtime friends to this largest Academy fundraiser of the year. Special thanks to Auction Chairs Elizabeth Grygo and David Smith and Co-Chairs Rick and Megan Kahn Lee, who oversaw every detail and who guided this Chemin train to a successful conclusion. Until next time, au revoir!    [Most photos shown courtesy of Steven’s Photography]
