Tim Eidman ’08 was named by St. Louis University High School to receive the Archbishop John L. May Service Award this spring. The nineteenth annual presentation of these awards seeks to recognize seniors at area Catholic high schools who have shown extraordinary volunteer achievement in their schools and communities. Archbishop Robert Carlson and Mr. George Henry, Superintendent of Catholic Education for the Archdiocese, present this award to young people who demonstrate to others that they are Alive in Christ.
Two other members of the Academy’s Class of 2008 have distinguished themselves during their years at St. Louis U. High.
Christian Probst received the JSEA (Jesuit Secondary Education Association) Award, which is given in each of the 59 Jesuit high schools in the United States to the member of the graduating class who best represents this ideal: “A well-rounded person who is intellectually competent, open to growth, religious, loving and committed to doing justice in generous service to the people of God.” Christian will be attending Yale in the fall.
Recognized frequently during his years at SLUH for his scholar-athlete merits, Sam Erlinger received the Dunn-Martel Award, which was established 20 years ago to honor two coaches whose tenures at the school were long and successful. This award is given to the senior who maintains the high level of scholarship as well as the discipline and commitment of athletic participation that earn for him selection as “Scholar-Athlete of St. Louis University High School.” Sam will be attending Vanderbilt University in the fall on the Cornelius Vanderbilt (full ride) Scholarship.
Megan Hilleman ’08, a senior soccer player at Villa Duchesne, was named the St. Louis Post-Dispatch Scholar Athlete and was featured last week in the Post as the “Athlete of the Week.”
Brendan Coletta ’08 was named Scholar Athlete at Barat Academy. Cross-country and golf are his standout sports.
Lucy Rauch ’68 was a Distinguished Honoree at the 2012 Biennial Judicial Reception on April 4. She was recognized for her outstanding service in the advancement of women in the legal field by the Women Law Students’ Association of St. Louis University.
Congratulations to Jeanne Peistrup Flood ’76, whose daughter Molly Flood was the recent recipient of the St. Rose Philippine Duchesne Award at the Villa Duchesne/City House Alumnae induction.
Emily DuBois ’03 will graduate in May with a Bachelor of Arts in Peace and Justice Studies after considerable delays because of health issues. She plans to take the MCAT and apply for medical school in the next year or so. Meanwhile she will be heading her group in the Take Steps 2012 for Crohn’s and Colitis Walk on June 3. Her group, dubbed No Colon, Still Rollin’, raised over $5,600 last year.
Alison Swearingen, a sophomore at Duchesne High School, has been selected to attend the 2012 Missouri Scholars Academy at the University of Missouri-Columbia. The Scholars Academy is for a select group of about 330 gifted and talented Missouri students who, for three weeks this summer, will take enrichment courses, experience leadership opportunities and develop friendships with students from all over the state.
