Our educational practices are not meant to be compartmentalized. Rather, each contributes to a growing awareness of our connectedness and responsibility to something greater.
Our newest initiative in Lower School is what we happily call “Classroom Connections.” Carefully designed with the education of the “whole” child in mind, the purpose of Classroom Connections is to enrich and extend the learning experience of our students. These “connections” happen in two distinct ways.
ONE WAY is by exposing students to units of study that we believe will broaden and enhance their human experience. Some of the units of study are: U.S. Landmarks, Presidents and World Leaders, Natural Wonders of the World, Art History, Music Appreciation, Famous Composers, Inventors, Constellations, and Birds and Flowers. Within each unit, activities are chosen that will touch upon multiple intelligences while enriching students’ understanding of these various topics. The desire is for each student to discover the excitement of pursuing a topic of intrinsic interest—whatever that may be—and find joy in learning.
THE SECOND COMPONENT of Classroom Connections is to provide a smaller, more personal learning environment that can better accommodate the individual needs of students and help each one realize their unique potential. Our desire is to identify and nurture strengths and to help each student discover the genius within him or herself.
