Technology

ASH.0166The Academy provides an environment in which students and technology instructors collaborate on curricular-based projects. The students explore a variety of software applications, including multimedia presentations, desktop publishing, word processing, database skills, spreadsheet skills, Photoshop and HTML/CSS.  Critical thinking skills, problem-solving strategies, teamwork and presentation skills are a primary focus for wide-ranging projects that incorporate technology skills as a daily tool, encouraging students to be independent users of a variety of computer applications.  Students comply with and are committed to a Student Acceptable Use Policy so that they act responsibly with the technology resources of the school.

The use of technology promotes individual creativity, teamwork, higher order thinking, and the editing process. Students produce a variety of end products including multimedia presentations, spreadsheets, graphics, web pages, simple and complex publishing documents, etc.  The skills taught in the technology lab are seen as tools for enhancing, extending and supporting the core curricular studies and learning opportunities at the Academy of the Sacred Heart.

Our students meet for their technology skills classes for two week blocks. During that two-week block the students meet daily; the blocks are rotated with music, art and global studies. In addition, teachers can schedule class time in the lab when it is available to meet the time needs of their curriculum.
